Gurdaspur, November 17, 2019: Surinder Pal, a youth belonging to Tung village of Gurdaspur district, has been given a scholarship of Rs 1,17,56,352 by Government of India to pursue higher education in a foreign country.
Talking exclusively to Babushahi at their home in Tung village, Surunder’s mother Sunita Devi and village Sarpanch Satwant Singh said Surinder was always a bright and exceptional student and had received a gold medal in M. Tech.
“He always wanted to study mechanical engineering abroad but because of poor economic condition of the family it was just a dream but now that dream is about to become a reality,” says a grateful Sunita Devi.
While thanking the government, Surinder said he will study mechanical engineering in Australia.
Surinder said he got to know that the Department of Social Justice and Improvement, Government of India, gave scholarship to bright students and he applied for it online in 2017 but didn’t get any reply.
“However, just recently I got a letter which stated that a sum of more than Rs 1.17 crore had been approved by the government for higher education abroad,” Surinder said.
He said that this amount takes care of all his expenses in Australia, including fees, food etc.
“I am very thankful to Government of India for giving me the support I needed to fulfil my dreams. After completing my studies I will return to serve my country,” Surinder said.
"Heartiest Congratulations to Surinder Pal, son of Jaspal, from Punjab for securing scholarship of Rs1,17,56,352 to pursue PhD from Australia under National Overseas Scholarship Scheme for SC by Ministry of Social Justice and employment.
